Mashabela Galane

Mashabela Galane is a Wits University Honours Degree Graudate majoring in dramatic arts and media studies.He won the Ikusasa young comedian of year award in the annual youth awards in 2012. In 2013 he was nominated in the South African Comic Choice Awards and SATMA’s in the categories ‘Audience Choice’ and ‘Best Indigenous Comedian’ respectively. In 2015, the Comic Choice Awards, for the very first time, featured the ‘Non-English Award’ category which Mashabela Galane won.

His showcases and appearances include Blacks Only Comedy show, Macufe Comedy Show,Soweto Comedy Festival,Botswana FM, Metro FM,Lesedi FM,Thobela FM,Yfm, Kaya FM, Tshwane Mzanzi Fela Comedy Festival. In the television and film industry, he has featured in District 9 (Hollywood), Rythym City (Etv), Makoti (Mzanzi Magic),Late night with Loyiso Gola (Etv),Morning Live (SABC2), Sun Rise (Etv), Strictly Vernac Comedy Show (DVD), Opening Guys (Mzanzi Magic), Teenagers on the Move (SABC 1) , Dimpara short film and most recently as Legodi on the prime time drama series Skeem Saam (SABC1).

His theatre performance include ‘Bread’ by Kgafela wa Magogodi (Wits Theatre), Welcome to Jo’burg by Zweli Banzi (Wits Theatre). Mashabela Galane runs weekly comedy shows for Southern Sun at Morula and Meropa Casino’s in Pretoria and Polokwane respectively.

He has performed all over South Africa, and some of these events include a project at the Durban ICC theatre, the State theatre, Lyric Theatre, Soweto and the Market Theatres. He’s also performed in Lesotho & Botswana. His biggest highlights back at home include hosting the SAMA’s pre party as an MC, Sifiso Ncwane post SAMA concert at the Lyric theatre, performing for the MEC of Arts & Culture Fikile Mbalula at their Arts & Culture awards, Old Mutual end of year party, ANCYL comedy festival in Polokwane, Germiston Jazz festival, ANC’s 99th Anniversary and the Hansa Legends tour.

Mashabela Galane is not only the brain behind the Annual Limpopo Comedy Festival, but he has released his first DVD live recording; Rock the Mother toungue (2013), Indigineous Punchlines (2014). He is soon to release another DVD which he shot in 2015, the DVD was shot in a SOLD OUT show at Carnival City, Top Arena, a venue that has never been filled prior to his show, for comedy events specifically.
