It’s been such an amazing, and yet the journey that kept the IDOLS contestants on the edge of their seats. South Africa, each week past as they have been choosing their favorite top acts. Last Sunday we have bid farewell to Siphelele Ngcobo from the top four(4). It all comes down to the SA Idols top 3, Karabo Mogane, Mmatema Moremi and Rhema Varrie.
Who is going to be on the top 2 ? is it the 24-year-old Karabo Mogane from Nelspruit who has already shown the most dramatic turnaround in this season of Idols SA, from Somizi Mhlongo complaining that he had “a dishwashing-water personality” at his original audition in Pretoria, to where the same Somizi exclaimed after Karabo’s solo audition at Sun City that he was now his Number One fan, and called him “one of the best male vocalists in the competition”. Before entering Idols SA Karabo studied Geoinformatics at the University of Stellenbosch, and he hopes to continue with his studies one day – “but just because I find it fascinating,” he says. “Music will always come first in my life.”
or is going to be Mmatema Moremi (23) from Zebediela in Limpopo who found the time to enter Idols SA, Mmatema is qualified as a professional linguist and she speaks four languages. “I translated in court cases sometimes,” she explains. “And I’m a marketing assistant and I work for my church on the side.” But for now Idols SA is her sole focus. Mmatema was part of the group that wowed the judges with their performance of TLC’s “Creep at Sun City and with her solo performance of Demi Lovato’s “Scyscraper” she proved that that was no fluke. Somizi was literally jumping up-and-down with joy.
or perhaps the one who has been told by Somizi at the original audition in Pretoria, that he looks and sounds like an Idol ? The 21-year-old , shy, Rhema Varrie who got his Golden Ticket to Sun City with four votes. Rhema lives in Alberton on the East Rand, where he supports his extended family with his job as a financial adviser. “My father brought me into music when I was about 5 – he saw potential and kept encouraging me,” says Rhema, whose dad is a missionary at the Victory Faith Centre in Boksburg. “I decided to get into Idols after reading up about it and seeing what a great experience and opportunity it could be,” he says.
