S.W.A.T. is an American action/crime drama television series about a specially trained elite unit taking the cases and situations too dangerous for the regular police to handle. The adventures of a Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team will be broadcast in the retro slot at 12:00pm from 16 December, 2015 on SABC3.

S.W.A.T. is a one-hour action adventure series from executive producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg.

This series features the missions of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team. They are a team of highly trained and heavily armed police officers whose purpose is to make coordinated assaults on armed and dangerous criminals in sensitive situations and defensible locations.

S.W.A.T. was a spin-off of the popular ABC cop drama The Rookies. This particular ‘Special Weapons And Tactics’ unit was an elite five-man team of police officers who dealt with situations that were too dangerous for the police force to handle. Each had a specific job: Lt. Harrelson head of a Special Weapons and Tactics team called the shots as the group’s commanding officer. He is a tough cop, and not just a cop, but a vulnerable and human person, and certainly not a superman. Sgt Kay was the group’s scout and Officer McCabe was the resident marksman. Each was also a Vietnam veteran, so they all adopted a military style (navy-blue fatigues) and used a combat mentality to deal with the problems they faced.

S.W.A.T.  stars Steve Forrest (Lt. Dan “Hondo” Harrelson). Portraying his wife, Betty, is Ellen Weston (Revenge Of The Stepford Wives); other prominent members of the highly trained and heavily armed team are Rod Perry (Sgt David “Deacon” Kay), Robert Urich (Officer Jim Street), James Coleman (Officer T.J. McCabe) and Mark Shera (Officer Dominic Luca.)
