For those who doesn’t know what Tourette syndrome (TS) is, it is a neurological disorder characterized by repetitive, stereotyped, involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics. The disorder is named for Dr. Georges Gilles de la Tourette, the pioneering French neurologist who in 1885 first described the condition in an 86-year-old French noblewoman. (credits: ninds.nih.gov)

Radlyn Naidoo,  a University of Pretoria BCom informatics student, entered Idols competition, and auditioned at Carnival City, Johannesburg.

Radlyn Started a facebook page called My Life with Tourette Syndrome, to raise an awareness of his condition.

“I wanted to create awareness to remind those with Tourette that they are not alone. And everybody is a star in their own way. I want to send positivity and help people. I was overwhelmed that I reached people both locally and globally. It has helped me,”

“Initially people thought I was acting out and would ask me to stop it. They didn’t realise I couldn’t control the movements,”

“I can dislocate my wrist five times a day and put it back. I hit myself, bust my lip, give myself blue eyes. I tend to have a high pain threshold.”

It is reported that he also auditioned for South Africa’s Got Talent in 2010 but unfortunately didn’t secure a spot however Radlyn believes he’s ready for the Idols audition.

Radlyn’s neurologist said Tourette cannot be cured however it can be controlled.

Naidoo is able to control his condition through singing.
